ECA’s online training course – Principles of Global Mobility

At ECA we’re always excited about anything new relating to Global Mobility (GM) – after all, it is our bread and butter. This week, however, we have been even more excited than usual!

The reason is that we are launching our new online training course: Principles of Global Mobility. This comprehensive online course will provide Global Mobility practitioners with all the knowledge they need to successfully manage assignments from start to finish!

What is it?

Building knowledge through training has always been one of ECA’s key services. We have traditionally delivered our expertise through workshops at our own offices or in-house at clients’ premises – whereby participants could make the most of networking, sharing their ideas and experiences amongst themselves.

I have been conducting training at ECA for several years and absolutely love the interactive element. There is huge value in individuals being able to share, in confidence, their professional experiences and practices within a like-minded group which is at the same time exploring the core subject matter more deeply. Necessity, however, is often the precursor of change and recent circumstances have shown that there is room to expand ECA’s training offering to include a different type of learning experience; one which will enable an even wider audience to benefit from our 50 years of expertise, while also presenting more opportunity for autonomous learning (perhaps even as a first step towards making the most of our classroom-style training).

The Principles of Global Mobility course will enable participants to learn about the wonderful world of Global Mobility at their own pace and in their own environment.

Essentially, the course is split into six bite-sized modules, mixing theory with practical exercises that will provide you with all the basic knowledge required for the successful management of international assignments. It will cover all of the most important areas from the ‘whys’ and the ‘whos’ of sending employees abroad and for how long, to covering subjects like tax, social security and immigration compliance, as well as the calculation and provision of assignee salaries and benefits, right to the end of the assignment.

Whether it is business trips, short-term or long-term assignments, for whatever reason and wherever in the world, we have it covered!

Who is it for?

In short, this is for all Global Mobility professionals!

New to the role? It is the ideal onboarding tool, and to quote one of our clients who had a sneak-peak at the course, it is "definitely very beneficial for anyone starting out in Global Mobility".

Have you been away from GM for a period? It also serves as a perfect refresher course. This course truly fits all levels of GM experience, as well as anyone in a role ‘linked’ to GM, such as HR generalists, payroll, or compensation & benefits.

Even here at ECA, this course is now part of the onboarding process for most new employees joining the company – that is how much we believe in the quality and benefits of our own product!

Why is it beneficial?

Simply because it will give you an all-you-need-to-know overview of the fundamental GM concepts, and the knowledge required to overcome some of the challenges Global Mobility can – and will – throw at you.

It is designed to not only be professional, but also fun! By the time you have completed this course you will have learnt all about the business drivers in sending employees abroad, the changing patterns of mobility and the basic compliance challenges from both employer and employee perspectives.

Furthermore, you will become familiar with market practice for allowances and benefits offered to employees on different types of international work and develop awareness of total assignment cost to the company and the importance of managing exceptions.

Finally, it will equip you nicely should you wish to attend ECA’s classroom course, the International HR Practitioner!

Whatever the capacity of your involvement in Global Mobility, this course will increase your subject matter knowledge – so the question is, why wouldn’t you want to benefit from that?

When and where do I complete this course?

Whenever you want. This course has a modular design which you can stop and start at your own convenience.

Once access is granted, you can complete the course in your own time, in your own workspace, at your kitchen table or while enjoying a croissant in your local café. On top of your newfound knowledge, you will also be awarded a formal certificate upon completion.
